A BEM DA ARTE

“A Bem da Arte” (For the Art Sake) is the first CD released by the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra.

This CD was released in February 1996, by the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the association the orchestra belongs to. It contains several lively musical compositions by Ernesto Serrão (1898-1937), a former composer and conductor of this orchestra, and some others to which he made some arrangements (nr. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14).

“Neapolitan Songs” is the fourth CD released by the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra.

This CD was released in October 2008, and contains the same repertoire that was presented at the concert held on July 3rd 2007 at Teatro Municipal do Funchal, where the acclaimed Portuguese Tenor CARLOS GUILHERME interpreted a wonderful selection of world famous Neapolitan Songs, accompanied by the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra.

“Mandolin Orchestra – Madeira Island” is the first DVD released by the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra.

This DVD was recorded live at Teatro Municipal do Funchal on February 18th 2004, by the occasion of commemorative concert of the 85th anniversary of the association the orchestra belongs to, and was released in June of the same year. This DVD is recorded on PAL System and Region 0 (which enables it to be watched worldwide).

NEAPOLITAN SONGS - MADEIRA MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA

 

“Neapolitan Songs – Madeira Mandolin Orchestra” is the second DVD released by this  orchestra.

This DVD was recorded live at Teatro Municipal do Funchal on July 3rd 2007 and was released in February 2008, by the occasion of the 95th anniversary of this musical group. In it one can see the acclaimed Portuguese Tenor CARLOS GUILHERME interpreting a fine selection of world famous Neapolitan Songs, accompanied by the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra. The musical orchestrations for this repertoire did not exist and Eurico Martins, the Artistic Director of the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra made them all, and the final result is simply outstanding. Plus, each Neapolitan Song is preceded with some information about it, provided by the Tenor, in Portuguese but there are English subtitles available on this DVD. It also contains an interview with the Tenor CARLOS GUILHERME, in which he explains how he came across this fabulous mandolin orchestra and how he thought it was just perfect to accompany Neapolitan Songs, among other interesting things.
